They answered this in Hot The Grinch 6 Feet People Shirt the Zombie Survival Guide. Although the bodies do decompose, the virus slows it down. It reported that 3000 years old (or something to that effect) zombies had been found in Siberia where decomposition was slowed down even more because of the cold. You have people who can’t even wait 2 weeks right now. There’s no hope if there’s a zombie plague. Quite a lot of decomposition is due to organisms consuming the remains. In some universes, whatever animates the zombie is so toxic these organisms can’t do their work which slows decomposition significantly. I’ve always thought this but for real is some biological creature is able to reanimate the corpse of a human and use it as a vessel it probably has a way to stop or at least slow down the decomposition process. Oh great! Now we have to deal with an onslaught of spooky, scary skeletons.

Now I’m worried about what 2020 is gonna give us next month. I always wondered if zombies eat people, why there are so many zombies? Their food source is also their means of reproduction. You always see massive swarms. So that means that swarm is made up of someone that got bit but got away for a while, the infection killing them later. It is very logical, the infection, a virus spread via parasites, takes over the cells of the body, take over all muscle contractions, and basic functions of the brain. The urge to feed the never-ending hunger spreads the virus further since incubation is so short, most ppl quickly turn Zeds after they died. Some lucky ones survived through immediate amputation.
