I think it’s just that while nearly all motorcyclists are aware of the wave, only a fraction of scooter riders are aware so most motorcyclists have Beautiful What’s Kraken Shirt just given up on waving at scooters. Yeah, a lot of people get scooters for convenience or gas mileage. So they’re not in on “scooter culture” which is perfectly fine. Most people on motorcycles are on it because they enjoy riding. When I was younger I didn’t wave at scooters. Now I do if they wave first. I blew a tire on the highway on Thanksgiving a few years back and was hours out from being able to get a tow. While stopped and waiting two riders pulled over.

It is a brotherhood of sorts. Riders usually always help other riders. We even had a couple of other guys on bikes stop and help us with a couple of Allen wrenches during the bike repair too. Not too long ago I saw a guy stranded in the rain so I stopped and asked if he needed help or a ride somewhere. He was surprised when I told him I didn’t have a bike and was just looking out for him. Harley and chopper riders in my experience never do it to street bike riders. Not sure if it’s cause they’re all 80 with poor vision or what.
